UNDERSTAND THE MARKINGS
120 is the nominal width in millimeters. 70 means the sidewall height is 70% of the width. 12 is the wheel diameter in inches. R indicates radial construction, B indicates belted bias, and a dash commonly indicates bias construction.
25 is the nominal overall tire diameter in inches. 8 is the nominal width. 12 is the wheel diameter. The first number describes the whole tire, not just the wheel. Actual mounted dimensions can differ.
3.00 is the nominal width in inches. 10 is the wheel diameter in inches. This format does not state an aspect ratio, so this tool does not calculate its overall diameter or promise a metric equivalent.
Use the results to understand the markings and narrow your search. Confirm the original specifications, wheel width and diameter, construction, load and speed requirements, tube requirements, and front or rear position before purchasing.
M/C identifies a motorcycle tire. TL means tubeless, TT means tube type, and NHS means not for highway service. These markings do not, by themselves, establish whether a tire and wheel combination is suitable for your vehicle.
No. It describes a tire capability under specified test conditions. It is not a recommended riding speed, a vehicle speed rating, or permission to exceed a posted limit. Follow the tire and vehicle manufacturer requirements.
No. The date code identifies when the tire was manufactured. Condition, damage, storage, use, and the manufacturer’s inspection and replacement guidance also matter. This tool does not issue a safety rating or an expiry date.
This tool supports common metric, inch, and ATV size formats, plus four digit DOT dates. Some specialty, alphabetical, vintage, or manufacturer specific markings need individual review. Recheck the sidewall or send a clear photo to our parts team.
